Welp this is it. This is the season review of 2017-18. I really wish that I was writing this during summer vacation hopefully after a cup win but that is not the case. The Florida Panthers dug themselves into a hole and despite a great second half they fell 1 point short. We will likely end up with the 15th overall pick. Here are a few things from the season.
Health Charm
For once the Florida Panthers had luck with the injury bug. Despite Goalie Roberto Luongo missing extended time with a couple of different lower body injuries, the Panthers had a clean bill of health. Aleksander Barkov played more than 75 games for the first time in his career. Aaron Ekblad, Nick Bjugstad and Jonathan Huberdeau had their first full 82 game seasons. Nick Bjugstad showed what he can do when fully healthy and if he continues to have luck with the injury bug, he could finally cement himself permanently in the top 6. Hopefully the luck isn’t a wasted season and continues into next year.
Slow Start
The Panthers had an awful start. Other than Barkov, Dadonov, Huberdeau and Trocheck; the Panthers weren’t getting any scoring from the rest of their lineup. The team was atrocious before the all star break. When the team scored in bunches, the goalies faltered. When their goalies were lights out, the offense disappeared. It took a while to balance it out. However when you have a slow start you aren’t making it.
I’m not going to go too in depth because you all saw this season and I don’t need to be too in depth. The big thing was consistency. In the first half of the year, we were very inconsistent. Near the end we were very consistent. The team needs to be consistent from the get-go in order to make it.
My Preseason Point Prediction: 87
Actual: 96
Difference: +9
