The 44 year old Jaromir Jagr was named a candidate for the Bill Masterson Award on Sunday. The Masterson award is like the preseverance award or comeback kid award or something along those lines. Jagr finished 2nd in the Panthers in goals with 27 and 1st on the team with 66 points. He also had the most games of himself, Barkov and Huberdeau with 79. Huberdeau had 75 or 76 and Barkov had 66. Jagr won the team’s Player of the Year Award and finished with a final grade of an A on The Puck Under the Sun’s Final Grades and ranked 2nd behind Barkov. Jagr is a leader. The other candidates are Rangers’ Matts Zuccarello who suffered a serious head injury but yet returned to play 81 games and Phillip Dupuis who had blood clot issues and only played 18 games with Pittsburgh. Jagr also influenced the team’s play throughout the year. When he scored the Panthers went 17-1-2. Jagr has played I believe 24 NHL Seasons with Pittsburgh, Washington, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston, New Jersey and Florida. He missed 3 seasons 2008-11 playing in the KHL for the Avangard Omsk. Jagr has also dealt with a lot of junk like Being blackmailed by an 18 year old model and his age. However he has persevered. I think he should win the Masterson Award but I expect tough competition from Zuccarello.
