The Panthers have lost another one of their founding fathers. After the loss of Wayne Huizenga several weeks ago, Bill Torrey passed away yesterday at the age of 83. The Panthers first ever retired number was #93 to honor their inaugural season and Torrey was the one to have the honor of having his name on that banner. Torrey was the General Manager of the Islanders during their dynasty years and assembled a team that included stars such as Denis Potvin, Mike Bossy, Brian Trottier and others. Torrey joined the Panthers as president in 1993 in the team’s inaugural season. Torrey retired in 2001 but served in an advisory role until his death on May 2nd, 2018. I will write a more complete post celebrating his life soon.
