400th Post: Revisiting the Means to Be Successful Series Part 1

Welcome to my 400th post ever on The Puck Under the Sun. Back in July-August, I looked at 17 Panther players who I was positive would make the roster and predicted how they would do this year. It was a 6 part series. I’m going to revisit it but instead of doing 6 parts again, I’m going to trim it to 4 parts. One player Jason Demers who was in the series was traded in preseason. Today we will look at Vincent Trocheck, Colton Sceviour, Mark Pysyk and Jonathan Huberdeau. I will predict their 2018-19 numbers but I will update it after free agency because stat predictions can change if we sign some free agents.

Vincent Trocheck (C)

Prediction if he played 75+ games: 25 G, 30 A, 55 PTS (91%)

Stats: 82 GP, 31 G, 44 A, 75 PTS

Trocheck had another fantastic year. In 82 games with a rotating door of wingers for most of the first half of the year, Trocheck led the team with 31 goals and finished 2nd with 75 points. These set career highs for the 2nd line center. Trocheck greatly exceeded my expectations.

Preliminary 2018-19 Prediction if he plays 75+ Games: 29 G, 40 A, 69 PTS

Colton Sceviour (F)

Prediction if he Played 75+ Games: 11 G, 16 A, 27 PTS

Stats: 76 GP, 11 G, 13 A, 24 PTS

Although  he didn’t meet my assist expectations, I’m going to give Sceviour the benefit of the doubt. He spent most of the year with Michael Haley and Derek Mackenzie which kind of wasted his potential. Sceviour got top line minutes near the end of the year. He played well on the top line. Sceviour is a tricky pick because he is a utility man.

Preliminary 2018-19 Prediction if he plays 75+ Games: 12 G, 13 A, 25 PTS

Mark Pysyk (D)

Prediction if he Played 75+ Games: 5 G, 13 A, 18 PTS

Stats: 82 GP, 3-13-16

I expected Pysyk to put more goals in the back of the net but he didn’t. He was solid defensively although he had off nights. I’d say Pysyk had a decent season.

Preliminary 2018-19 Prediction if he Plays 75+ Games: 2 G, 15 A, 17 PTS

Jonathan Huberdeau

Prediction if he played 75+ Games: 23-40-63

Stats: 82 GP, 27-42-69

Huberdeau had a good season after an injury-shortened 2016-17 campaign. Huberdeau played well with Barkov and Dadonov. Although he was quiet with Vincent Trocheck, Huberdeau was solid. In my opinion, the Panthers need to put Huberdeau back with Barkov and Dadonov and sign a quality winger for Vincent Trocheck. I see Huberdeau continuing to put up big numbers down the road.

Preliminary 2018-19 Prediction if he plays 75+ Games: 25-41-66
