Jim Montgomery is the front runner for the job. The defending NCAA champion coach, Montgomery brings some defense tools to the Panthers that they desperately need. However, he is not an offensive coach. Denver struggled to score, not even averaging 2 Goals For per game in their championship season. However, goalie Tanner Jalliet and Hobey Baker winning Defenseman William Butcher patched things up as Denver allowed less than 1 goal per game. Montgomery’s leading scorer is Panthers prospect Henrik Borgstrom. Borgstrom is very skilled but he needs to work on his defensive game. Montgomery was well respected by his players at Denver. However, the Panthers will need a better goalie and defensive core otherwise Montgomery’s tenure here will be a disaster. However, it could go either way.
