Goals Scored by Defensemen realtive to total goals percentage

In this post, I will be ranking all 30 NHL teams on what percentage of their total goals for were scored by Defensemen. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

In the NHL, normally forwards do all of the goal scoring and defenders normally get assists or just handle the grunt work- which is keeping the puck out of the net. However, some defenders like Brent Burns have a lot of goals.

The Florida Panthers lead this list. The Panthers have 21 of their total 85 goals scored by their blueliners this year. The 21 goals scored by their defensive core are only 6 less than what last year’s defensive Panther core scored in the entire season. Aaron Ekblad had scored 15 of those goals which is 55.56% of total defenseman goals by Florida. While, Ekblad with 7 goals this year still leads Florida defenseman, he has 33.3% of Florida’s defenseman goals. Brent Burns, the Sharks blueliner and NHL leading goal scorer for defensemen has brought the Sharks into 2nd place.
