Jagr beats Messier

During the 3rd period of the Panthers 3-1 home loss to Boston, Aleksander Barkov scored the Cats only goal of the night. The primary assist deflected off Jaromir Jagr’s side. The assist would be Jagr’s 1,888th career point, which put him in sole possession of 2nd overall in NHL Career points as he beat Mark Messier. Wayne Gretzky is 1st, but Gretzky has a ridiculous 2,857 career points which by Jagr’s current pace would take around 20 years to tie and Jagr would be 64 then and I don’t think the ageless one would play that long. Play was halted after the goal and Panthers Vice President of Broadcasting/FOX Sports Florida Panthers Between the Benches Analyst Randy Moller presented Jagr with the golden stick for getting 2nd all time and interviewed him.

“I thought my 1,888th point would’ve been a goal or a beautiful assist, but the puck bounced off my ass” Jagr joked during the quick stoppage in play ceremony in his interview with Moller.

The Barkov goal would put the Panthers on the board and cut the Bruins lead down to 1, but Backes would score an empty netter and the Bruins would spoil Jagr’s night with a 3-1 Boston win.
