Panthers Top 20 Prospects entering 2016-17: 13-8

Welcome to part 2 of 4 of my Top 20 Panthers prospects. Here we will rank the next bunch of Panthers prospects from 13th best to 8th best. I wrote a previous article about prospects 20-14. Just scroll down in the Minor League & Prospect Updates for a more in depth look but here they are:

14- Mascherin, 15- Brittan, 16- Racine, 17- Regner, 18- Harper, 19- Malgin and 20- Wegwerth.

Let’s get started with number 13.

13 Colin Stevens (G)

After going undrafted, the Panthers signed him to a ELC. He backstopped his former team Union to a championship in 2014. He isn’t the quickest goalie but his positioning is a major strength. Stevens impressed me in my one day at development camp. I believe he is the future backup goalie to the goalie of the future Sam Montembeault. He had a .908 Save Percentage with Manchester of the ECHL last year. Projected NHL Arrival: 2021-22

12 Henrik Borgstrom (C)

Henrik Borgstrom was a surprise pick by the Panthers with the 23rd overall pick in 2016. He is an elite stickhandler. I saw him at development camp. He has a pretty good shot. He needs to work on passing. Our shootout team of the future with Barkov and him will be incredible. Borgstrom will be going to college. Projected NHL Arrival: 2020-21

11 Connor Brickley (LW)

Brickley had an amazing preseason and was called up to the bigs. He played in 23 games and had 5 points but didn’t come back up. I think Brickley is a future bottom six guy but I don’t think he will get a spot for a while. Projected NHL Arrival: 2018-19

10 Michael Downing (D)

Downing was the 97th overall pick in 2013. After a great year with Michigan, he was signed to an ELC. He should bolster Portland’s blueline. He is a great two way defender. He plays a defensive game first. I think Downing does have a future with the Panthers. I think he will be a great help on the defensive side of the D. Projected NHL Arrival: 2018-19

9 Juho Lammikko (LW)

Lammikko was the 65th overall pick in 2014. He is tall and has a right handed shot. He is compared to Joel Armia. He played with fellow prospect Lawson Crouse in Kingston. He signed an ELC. He is an elite two way forward. I think he will be a solid player for the future. Projected NHL Arrival: 2017-18

8 Kyle Rau (C)

Rau is similar to Rocco Grimaldi except grittier. Grimaldi was traded to Colorado. He was the 91st overall pick back in 2014. He will be the guy who will be called up when players get injured this year. He has the potential to be a Tyler Ennis like player. He is agile and a quick skater. His defensive game is underrated. Projected NHL Arrival: 2017-18

Tomorrow I will post prospects 4-7 and then Wednesday the top 3 will be revealed.
