Panthers Updated Opening Night Projection

A week into camp and let’s take a look at who I think will make it. Let’s also see who has impressed and who hasn’t

Pre-Camp Locks

Forwards: Barkov, Huberdeau, Dadonov, Trocheck, Hoffman, Connolly, Vatrano

Defense: Yandle, Ekblad, Matheson, Stralman

Goalies: Bobrovsky

Impressed

Henrik Borgstrom (C)

Brett Connolly (W)

Disappointed

Aaron Ekblad (D)

Mike Matheson (D)

Locks After a Week of Camp

Henrik Borgstrom (C)

Originally 90% likely to make the opening night roster, Borgstrom has exploded in preseason with an incredible display of skill.

Noel Acciari (C)

Acciari has not impressed but he hasn’t disappointed. Nonetheless, he has done enough to earn himself a locked spot.

Colton Sceviour (W)

Sceviour was not an almost lock but was on the verge. However now I would peg him as a lock.

Mark Pysyk (D)

Pysyk does not look like he will be traded and will likely be on the opening night roster.

Sam Montembeault (G)

Despite giving up 4 goals and 3 shootout goals v Montreal, Monty did make 42 saves and has looked strong. He will make the opening night roster.

The Remaining Forwards

There are 7 forwards left after narrowing it down. 2 will make the starting lineup. 1 or 2 will stay as healthy scratches. 3 or 4 will be sent down.

Denis Malgin

Malgin has struggled in camp. However, I do think he might be able to impress in some of these last few preseason games.

Odds: 75%

Owen Tippett

It took a while but Tippett finally got going Thursday night with a lethal snipe over the shoulder of Carey Price. Tippett needs to impress the rest of the way but I think he can.

Odds: 59%

The Three-Way Battle

I think these 3 will battle for the final spot or 2.

Jayce Hawryluk

Dryden Hunt

Troy Brouwer

Who I think Will Make It: Hawryluk, Brouwer

Likely on the Way to Springfield

Dominic Tonianto

Anthony Greco

Goalies

Since I have Montembeault and Bob as locks, we will see Phillipe Desrosiers and Chris Drediger make their way toward Springfield pretty soon. Dredgier was not impressive in his start against Montreal and Desrosiers was not good in his half a game vs Nashville.

Defense

Defense is definitely the most interesting battle.

I think Mackenzie Weegar should be considered an almost lock despite his struggles in preseason.

Riley Stillman has looked good and will compete with Josh Brown and Ian McCoshen for the 7th spot.

Ethan Prow and Thomas Schemitsch will be heading back to Springfield pretty soon.
