State of the Panthers: Thanksgiving 2016-17

Happy Thanksgiving! While everyone celebrates by eating turkey, counting their blessings, preparing for Black Friday or Watching football, it’s time to review the 1st part of the season:

Our record: 10-9-1; 21 points; 0.525 Point Percentage

+\-: +1 point(s)

Best Win: October 30th @Detroit 5-2

Worst Loss: November 17th @Toronto 1-6

Last Year Best Win (ATP): October 10th vs. Philadelphia 7-1

Last Year Worst Loss (ATP): November 5th @San Jose 2-5

This Year Best Winning Streak: 2 Games (Oct 13-15; Nov 12-15; Nov 19-20)

This Year Worst Losing Streak: 3 Games (Oct 25-29)

Last Year Best Winning Streak (ATP): 2 Games (Oct 13-15; Oct 24-27; Nov 14-16)

Last Year Worst Losing Streak (ATP): 5 Games (Oct 30- Nov 7)

Current Place in Standings: 5th in Atlantic

My take: This year’s Panthers team is far better. It shows a point advantage and we have missed a lot of players due to injuries this year while last year at this point there weren’t too many injuries.

We need to improve at: Playing a full 60 minute game.

Areas that need to be improved

1. Full 60 minute effort

2. Brick Wall Defense

3. Amount of SOG on Powerplay

4. Toughness

5. Health

Areas that have been doing well

1. Passing

2. Depth Production

3. 3 on 3 Overtime

Areas that have been Inconsistent (Good some nights, terrible others)

1. Goaltending

2. Special Teams

3. Mental Toughness

4. Scoring

5. Star Prouduction

I think the Panthers can win but they need a 60 minute effort, everything in the inconsistent category to be consistently good, and a better brick wall defense. I know I’ve been pushing a 12 game winning streak agenda but we can do good if we have a lot of mini-4 to 7 game winning streaks. Tampa will fall soon without Stankos; Ottawa and Montreal are bound to start stumbling and Boston will stay where they are so we need to pass Boston and that is the key.
