Nick Bjugstad Injured

Nick Bjugstad wanted to get the 2016-17 start of the season on the right foot. But he injured hia hand in a collision in a preseason game. He will be out for 4-6 weeks. This gives Greg McKegg or Denis Malgin an opportunity. Bjugstad led the team in 2014-15 with 24 goals but only scored 15 last year in 67 games due to injuries.

Notable Players Cut

Defenseman Jakub Kindl, Goaltender Reto Berra, and Forward Logan Shaw were all placed on waivers Wednesday. Kindl was acquired in a trade with Detroit during the trade deadline last year. After being burned on a play in game 1, he was benched in favor of rookie Mike Matheson. At the end of the playoffs Matheson was playing with Aaron Ekblad and Kindl was playing benchwarmer. With Matheson going to be up he faced stiff competition from Steven  Kampfer and Ian McCoshen. Berra was acquired to backup James Reimer in case Luongo (hip surgery) couldn’t start the season. Shaw is trapped in limbo. He isn’t ready for the NHL but he is too good for the AHL. All cleared waivers.

Kyle Rau, Mackenzie Weegar, Connor Brickley and Dryden Hunt were all sentenced to Springfield.

Forwards Paul Thompson (Acquired in Savard trade), Greg McKegg, and Denis Malgin remain as well as Defenseman Ian McCoshen.

Panthers Preseason Game Canceled 

The Florida Panthers- Tampa Bay Lightning game at the BB&T Center scheduled for today has been cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew.
