Welcome to our Free Agency Recap. Here are the four players we signed:
Aaron Ekblad (Defenseman, 8 years $7.5 M, Extension, Starts 2017-18)- In 2014 with the Number 1 overall pick the Florida Panthers selected Aaron Ekblad a defenseman. Ekblad would go on to win the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year. He is a franchise defenseman and wants to be here forever. He is very special. He has 75 career points in 159 career games. It is the richest second contract for a defenseman and will be the 5th highest paid defenseman behind Subban, Weber, Byfuligen and Ryan Suter.
James Reimer (Goaltender, 5 years $3.4 M)- Reimer is a great goalie. He has appeared in 215 contests as a member of Toronto and San Jose. He has a Win-Loss-OTL Record of 91-78-23 and a save percentage of .914 and a GAA of 2.79. He might start the season with Reto Berra as Luongo still might be recovering from hip surgery.
Colton Sceviour (Forward, 2 years, $950K)- Sceviour has 62 points in 170 career games with 23 coming in 71 games last year in Dallas. He is a solid bottom 6 addition and should do well. I’ve also heard that he can fight and when Thornton isn’t in the lineup he can fight.
Jonathan Marchessault (Forward, 2 years, $750K)- Marchessault is another solid bottom 6 guy. He is coming from Tampa. He played in 45 games last year and had 18 points. Overall his career numbers are 49 games, 19 points. I think he will get a bigger role here and do well.
Overall we stayed quiet but didn’t get involved with the big bucks because a lot of guys were overpaid. What do you think? I thought it was a good day. Please comment if you wish.
